To participate in LS classes:
- You must have a strong internet connection with a download speed of at least 3.0 Mb/second and an upload speed at least 0.75 Mb/second. Check your internet speed here: Internet Speed Test
- There are also minimal software requirements, namely Adobe FlashPlayer and the Adobe Connect Add-in. You can run this Adobe Connect Connection Test to make sure your browser and computer meet these requirements.
- You will also need a headset with a microphone. The important thing is that your headset works well with your computer. A common mistake is to have a headset that only has one jack, while your computer has separate ones for audio and mic; a one-prong headset may not enable your microphone to work. You might find it easier to use a headset that has two jacks over one that connects via USB port, as with the two jacks there isn't any need to install new programs. Some recommended headsets are:
- Logitech USB Headset H530 with Premium Laser-Tuned Audio (981-000195) - This is a more expensive headset that costs $50 - $75 but is very good. Connects through a USB port.
- Plantronics Audio 326 Stereo PC Headset - This is a good and cheap headset, but doesn't cancel noise at all. Costs about $15 - $20. Connects through audio and mic jacks.
- Plantronics Audio 648 Stereo USB Headset - This headset is also good and cheaper, costing around $20 - $40. Has a noise-canceling mic. Connects through a USB port.
- Senheister PC350 - This is an outstanding headset, costing $175 - $200. It has warehouse quality noise-canceling technology. This would be nice if your child has to do a class in a noisy room. Connects through audio and mic jacks.
- Gamecom 7.1 - This costs around $60 - $100. It is not quite as nice as the Senheister but is also very good. Has very good noise-canceling technology. Some versions connect through a USB port, some through audio and mic jacks.
- UrbanEars - These are great for iPhones and iPads, and cost about $50 on average. Connects using a single audio/mic jack, so will not work with some computers that have separate audio and mic jacks.
- Cyber Acoustics AC-8000 Stereo Headset for Kids - This costs $15 - $30 and is great for young kids. Connects through audio and mic jacks.
